The best reference I know is the (TeX)info pages that come with screen.
Run "info screen" to read it.
Quick start: ^A (Control+A) is the escape character. Hit it, then
c ==> create a new window
n ==> next window
p ==> previous window
^A ==> goto second-last window
w ==> list windows

I use rsync for that.
