    Hi
i have a compro VideoMate TV / FM with a Philips SAA7134 chip that I am
trying to get working on linux. I am using debian (testing)

When I run xawtv, I get a window that is dark but looks like it has
interference in it. There is no sound. When I click "Channel window"
    in the xawtv window,

I have installed xawtv, saa7134, and bttv. I selected correct country
    settings (Australia) when asked.

I don't really understand how xawtv links to v4l, or how v4l links to
the kernel module for my tv card.

Here is the output from a couple of commands I tried

    rb:/home/richard# dmesg |grep saa7134
    saa7134[0]: found at 0000:01:02.0, rev: 1, irq: 209, latency: 32, mmio:

    rb:/home/richard#

(notice the extra two line when I run dmesg |grep saa7134 for the second
    time, after I"ve run xawtv)

I have googled for information about this, and can't find anything
helpful. If you want to see config files, let me know which ones and
    I'll post them.

Oh, when I start xawtv, all that is output to the console is this:
    This is xawtv-3.94, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.8-2-686-smp)
config: invalid value for input: Television
    valid choices for "input": "default"

I don't get any of the other stuff until i start playing with channel
editor (there were no channels listed so i tried creating one, then
going to channel window then clicking on it. Didn't work)

    Thanks in advance,
    Richard
