    iirc, the latest MACOS uses BSD behind the scenes, and many of their
    programs are variants of GNU codebase.

    the issue with MAC is that they have/had a rigorous certification
    process for their hardware. linux tries to work with helter-skelter
    hardware to varying degrees of success.

    immagine only having to make your codebase work within a specific, well
    defined set of hardware and os API. then imaging something like linux,
    developed in a vacuum, often without vendor support, and trying to work
    on a vast range of hardware platforms. see the difference?
