Thanks to a chain of events too convoluted to recount, I find myself in
need of a disk image for the Extended Systems Extendnet 4000, The
hardware is fine, but the disk is trashed. Extended Systems
discontinued this product several years ago and no longer supports it.
The 4000 includes a "Press this button to reload factory defaults"
button which rebuilds everything from a magic partition, unfortunately a
disk error prevents the filesystem which reads this button from
mounting. The magic partition itself also has read errors and so the
whole thing is unusable. I can replace the hard drive, but I need a
factory image to load on it. I had a backup drive, but it was subjected
to (-ahem-) "gravometric overstress" and is no longer available...
Plan B: If a reload image is unavailable, I'm open to suggestions for
alternative software. The hardware is a 466MHz Celeron w/128MB RAM, two
3com NICs, and a USR PCI modem (not a winmodem) for dial backup. The
original code was based on, I believe, a 2.2 linux kernel with a bunch
of scripting to make it relatively simple to set up and use. Services
needed: router, DHCP/NAT, firewall, webserver, mailserver,
WIN-compatible shared storage.
