advice on any bright modern (16Mb+) video cards for text mode

Perhapps there is a way to crank up the GAMA for text mode?
Every new video card since 4Mb RAGE IIC seams progressively darker.
Most games you can't even see anything, sheesh, are they developping them on 1Mb cards? ;)
