Printer/CUPS-problem

I put this question to 'comp.windows.x.kde' a couple of days ago, but got no
response. I really don't know whether this problem is KDE- or SuSE-related
so I try my luck here, as well - it's sort of frustrating to have a new
printer that can't print! :)
"A couple of days ago I installed a new Lexmark series 510 inkjet printer
(works OK under Windows XP!)
It was 'auto recognized' by SuSE 9.2/KDE 3.3.0 and driver(s?) were installed
via YaST - but when I attemt to print, nothing happens and I receive a
message like:
"An error occurred while fetching the printer list.
Connecting to CUPS-server failed. Verify that CUPS-server is correctly
installed and running.
Error: Connection refused"
(text translated from Danish - may deviate from 'authorized' English
dialogue version!)
/var/log boot.msg says:
"Starting cupsd<notice>startproc: execve (/usr/sbin/cupsd)
[ /usr/sbin/cupsd ], [ CONSOLE=/dev/console TERM=linux SHELL=/bin/sh
INIT_VERSION=sysvinit-2.85 REDIRECT=/dev/tty1 COLUMNS=158
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin vga=0x31a RUNLEVEL=3
PWD=/ SPLASHCFG=/etc/bootsplash/themes/SuSE/config/bootsplash-1280x1024.cfg
PREVLEVEL=N LINES=57 HOME=/ SHLVL=2 splash=silent SPLASH=yes
_=/sbin/startproc DAEMON=/usr/sbin/cupsd ]
done
<notice>exit status of (splash powersaved kbd cups) is (0 5 0 0)"
I suspect some kind of CUPS-problem, but unfortunately I don't understand
the (precise meaning of) the message.
What should I do?"
