Ok, I used yo use the same terminal emulator, and had the same problem.

Set the terminal type to vt100. From the terminal session:

TERM=vt100
export TERM

On putty, you have to change the keymap to transmit the CTRL+H (or was it
CTRL+L) (I can't remember exactly, so you might need to experiment with this,
until you find the correct key sequence.)

I know for sure it is fixable.

Have a look at Teraterm also.
