Webdav is supported by Apache and IE has a webdav client. I don't know
about other linux distros, but Ubuntu has a webdav client built in. You
open a web folder and can then drag and drop files into it the same way
that you'd drag and drop a file into a normal desktop folder. Except that
the folder is on a remote host with Apache. You can set up multiple
folders and password protect them.
