Have you tried mounting as read-only? Does the share work then?
You are restarting the samba session, after making the changes, aren't you?
You may wish to consider reformatting ext2 now. You can still share this via samba.

I ended up getting partition magic and converting from ntfs down to fat32. After that, everything went perfect. I guess it just didn't like the ntfs for some reason...
