Some questions you'll have to answer before anyone can help
1. What kind of modem
2. What kind of driver package (tarball, rpm, deb)
3. What does the documentation that comes with the driver say?
Please understand that (unlike windoze), real modems in Linux do not have
drivers other than the standard serial port driver that is part of the kernel.
If this is a driver for some brain-dead winmodem, be sure you have the
correct driver for your specific distribution and kernel. To identify
those, run the commands
cat /etc/*release
uname -a
