Did you notice that the last two articles posted to this newsgroup
were dated 07 and 26 June? That might be a hint that this isn't the
place. On the 15th of each month, there is a posting to the Usenet
newsgroups news.announce.newgroups, news.groups and news.lists.misc
listing the groups that should be carried on all news servers. There
are 17 comp.os.linux.* newsgroups, but this isn't one of them, and it
only been averaging about 15 posts a month. If you want your post to
be seen, use one of those 17 groups, or an appropriate (distribution
specific) group in the alt.os.linux.* hierarchy.

I had to purchase a new APC UPS, the SMT1000. One of the reasons I
did was I was using "apcupsd" since around 2000 and it had been working
so well, I didn't want to go to a different brand UPS because I don't
have the time to configure or set up any new software.

Not familiar with it. But what version/release of Linux and what version
of apcupsd are you trying to use? 3.14.8 (January 2010) seems to be the
current version. The 'UPS-HOWTO' doesn't offer as much "hands on" but
if 2000 was the last time you screwed with Linux UPS software, things
have shaken down quite a bit. There are basically two choices now, the
apcupsd stuff (http://www.apcupsd.com/) and the more universal NUT
(Network UPS Tools). Assuming you are using a compatible distribution
(which startup scripts - "upstart" or SysVInit - Fedora switched to
upstart in Fedora 9), the 'apcupsd' may be a solution.

I would like to have what I've had since around 2000, my Fedora Core
4 Linux as well as my Sun Solaris systems to shut down if the battery
comes close to being fully discharged.

The UPS cable only connects to one of the systems, and other systems
have to use a network client listening to a server daemon running on
the system physically connected to the UPS.
