Ah. Third time seems to be the charm.

'Maybe' it's when I specified that the monitor was an NEC MultiSync 1810X (and
not 1810 without the X). The vertical and horizontal refresh rates are somewhat
different for the two.

And so dual-hdr may have nothing to do with it.

I did notice a question (in the series of questions _after_ the install) to the
effect:

You 'may' be able to configure such that you can boot either graphically or to a
line-oriented prompt.

This appeared in the Help bar to the left however there was nothing
corresponding to it in the options to the right. (As best I remember this
screen, it's the one where one of the two options was to specify what the
default resolution is to be).

RedHat Linux looks pretty nice, including the desktop (is this GNOME?).

Anyway, now that I have things working, I imagine I'll become familiar with all
these distinctions, etc over time.

I have the allotted memory (in VirtualPC) set to 250 MB (there's 1 GB total on
the machine). Is this enough to run RedHat Linux (with the graphical desktop)?
I'm on a Pentium III 1 GHz, and apps seem a little slow to start up (maybe
they're hitting the pagefile a lot because I've got Linux throttled to 250 MB).
However other than that, responsiveness, if anything, is pretty good.
