Explaining Linux video to a Windows expert

I was trying to explain to a friend at
work how Linux video works ( xwindows,
GNOME ) differing from ms.

Can anyone recommend a good newbie
introduction site that maybe
shows some graphics and gives a
view of the difference between
windows/linux video subsystems.
