Did the instructions say to _execute_ the file? The ones I
seem to recall reading when I installed Sun's Java (later
replaced by Blackdown's) said to run the file. In terms of
problem solving techniques, this is a fairly constrained set
of possible solutions. The file _is_ the installer and the
package all rolled into one. That way, Sun can (virtually)
guarantee that you clicked on the box to accept the license
agreement.
If the "bin fil" is not the right type for your operating
system, that means you downloaded the wrong one.
