I seem to remember geting something similar a while ago but for upgrading
7.3 to 8.0
It turned out to be a problem with an rpm package I have relocated and
symlinked to on a transient drive. When doing the upgrade the link wasn't
there and the process stopped. Maybe you should first verify the status of
your system compared to the rpm database.
Isn't it something like:
rpm -Va
