Until somebody who knows more/better responds...

It _should_ just work, modulo a few hardware differences
and/or any unforeseeable gotchas. If I were making such a
move, I would do the following:

  - Make backup CDs, or a backup tarball on another
machine. That way, worst case, you can restore your
    data.

  - Switch to runlevel 3 if you're not already there. It's
in /etc/inittab. Make sure the initdefault line says
    "id:3:initdefault:" (without the quotes).

  - Research for any compatibility issues with the new
hardware. Google groups and google.com/linux searches
on the names and model numbers of hardware may be
    useful.

  - Remove any optional hardware at first. It can be added
back in later if all goes well. When working with
potential problems, it's usually best to handle them as
few at a time as possible.

  - Make sure Knoppix will boot on the new machine. This
may flush out any bad compatibility issues. It also
gives you an alternative way onto to the new machine if
something goes wrong with the RH installation.

Then, I would try it.

When booting with the new hardware, expect kudzu to find
some things to unconfigure and to reconfigure.

Good luck.
