Saw a magazine last night with Slackware 9.1 and a bootable CD of Suse
Linux 9.0. Thought I'd give them a go.
Slackware installation from CD fails with similar though different
message to RH installation:
"error screen dump ends with Kernel Panic: Attemt to kill init!" as for
RH. But helpfully the error message at the top of the screen is written
before the dump. The message comes after detection of the 2 hard drives
and CDROM and reads:
"Unable to handle Kernel null pointerdereference at virtual address
00000000
printing EIP"
Bootable Suse disk requires SmartBootLoader on a floppy to start the
boot, then gets stuck at the same place.
I'm starting to think that I need to use an old linux distribution on
this machine or else buy a new moterboard and processor.
Any comments?
