A month ago I purchased and installed Sun's Java Desktop System (JDS).
It was my first foray into Linux. Last week I completely removed JDS
and installed RedHat Linux.
I have 3 machines in a home LAN using a Linksys router and a cable
modem. Two machines are Windows XP.
After I installed JDS, the other 2 machines appeared in a folder
(can't remember the name). I didn't do anything to have them appear.
The installation procedure obviously did something to set up the
network. I was able to access them without any problem.
Now that I have RedHat, the other machines do not appear. I tried
doing various things that I have read on-line and in printed
documentation but I can't get it to work.
Can someone help? What does JDS have or use that RedHat doesn't to set
up my network? Or did I do the RedHat installation incorrectly?
