A while back, I posted about installing on small hardware (ie. 1U machines,
fatter machines with smaller footprint, etc.). I'm giving a 1U from Supermicro
a try.
But to stay small, yet keep mirrored disks, I need to give up on a CDROM and
Floppy. For the most part, that's no problem. The only time I'd use these
is in an installation.
So...how does one install with neither CDROM nor floppy?
I assume that one part involves a DHCP server. But what's next? I remember
from when I used diskless SUN workstations that the kernel was available via
either BOOTP or TFTP (I don't recall the details too well anymore), and that
the various filesystems were simply NFSed.
I suppose that there's some analog for a diskless Linux machine. But what
about a diskfull installation?
Pointers to documentation on this would be fine. I've tried searching, but
I'm obviously not looking for the right combination of keywords. For example,
I found:
http://www.telenovela-world.com/~spade/linux/howto/Network-Install-HOWTO.html
but this requires at least a boot floppy.
Any pointers? Thanks...
Andrew
