RH 9 Blank screen

I've got a Gateway 2000 G-233 (Pentium II) and EV500 monitor. I'm trying to
install RH 9 from a CD that came with "Red Hat Linux 9 in 24 hours" (I think
it's going to be longer for me).

Anyway, I can get as far as the RH logo and boot prompt. When I hit return
it appears to start booting (lots of lines of techno-babble) then the screen
goes blank and nothing but the CD whirring away.

I've tried text mode and several other of the boot options but it's always
the same.

Any ideas?
