Partition problem on RH9 Installation

  I have a P4, 2.66GHz computer w/ 1GB Ram, new computer, new Maxtor
120GB HD, etc. and had FX 5200 NVidia 8X AGP card in it. Has Windows 2K,
etc, installed on 90GB partition.

A few weeks ago I installed RH 9.0 from factory CD on the un-used 30GB
of partition. Due to problems getting Linux to display graphics on that
video card, I removed Linux. I did this by using Partition Magic v. 8 to
free up the 30GB space that Linux had partitioned. (Also had to use
FDisk to fix MBR to boot Windows, again.

Windows worked fine after Linux removal.

I then replaced my NVidia video card with an ATI Radion 7000 card in
hopes that Linux would work with this card. (It does).

However, in attempting to re-install Linux on the now free 30GB space,
the RG 9 installation program now says there is an error.... indicating
there may be no free space. Also mentions something to the effect that I
have not created a root partition.

THe first time I ran RH 9 installation, this partitioning went smoothly
under the automatic partition choice and I was not prompted for any of
this root partition creation, nor any errors. The installation went
automatically and completely....

My Question: Why is RH 9 installation now giving me this problem in
the partition section of installation process?

  Thanks to any help.

  Ed
