Compaq Proliant 5000 video card

I have a Compaq Proliant 5000 server with Redhat 9. I used the CL542x Cirrus
Logic video driver during install.

Now I have a scrambled screen when I go into any graphical environments. How
do I prevent the graphical environment from automatically starting so I can
get to Xconfigurator and change my video settings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
