RH8 APM boot hang problems

Hi,

My RH8 installation hangs when it tries to boot (just after it says it's
doing a partition check). I've come across the solution to this before -
something about modifying advanced power options on startup. Problem is
that (being a total dweeb) I've forgotten exactly what the options were or
how to set them at boot up time. Any pointers gratefully received - and
this time I'll write them down where I won't forget them 8-(
