Hi
I've a PC with w2K, suse 9.0 anf FedoraCore1.
Yesterday I installed a new HD (MAXTOR UDMA 133).
I tried to partition it with the Fedora Installation CD in 2 slice of 50
Gb ext3 and 1 free of 20Gb.
After a while I got a PC freezing with the screen image corrupted and I
had to reset.
I booted W2k and it saw every thing OK, so I formatted the thin slice as
NTFS.
Then I rebooted suse and fedora but neither one could see the new disk.
I thought that 50 Gb could be too big partitions so I went back in W2k and
pationed it in slices of 40Gb but this didn't emproved my situation.
If I try to fdisk /dev/hdc I get a 'impossible to open' error.
If I try to format I get:
mkfs.ext3: No such device or address while trying to determine filesystem size
I can't neither mount the NTSF partition

I made a lot of rebooting and some times my BIOS gave me the error:
Secondary IDE channell no 80 conductor cable.
but then it went on correctly.
Could be that the reason of the missing HD on the X systems ?
(but I continue to use the HD without problems from w2k!!!).
today is Sunday so no store open to buy a new cable!!!
How can I check if mine is a 40 conductor or a 80 cable???
I read that if you use a 40 cond. instead a 80 cond. you just slow down
the transfer, isn't it??

Or perhaps I had to tell something to the system that I didn't?
Why kudzu didn't say anything for the new device???

In addition to all theese problems now my mouse doesn't work good any more
on the X systems (it does on W2k). After a while from the boot the coursor
moves good but if I try to drag any object pulling down the button the
coursor sticks on the screen and do not move any more. Could this be
related with th HD problem???

Thanks to anyone that will help me!!!!!

Licia.
