Hello,
I run Red Hat 8.0 on a new Dell box. Most of configuration is default. For
couple of months my telnet worked fine but just recently I noticed it
stopped working. The only thing that I have done is that I upgraded Amanda
backup system. The telnet seems to be running. I can telnet from the server
out. However, When I try to connect from outside on the same network. I can
see the server on the network. I can access the the computer through samba
but I cannot telnet to it. The error that I get is following:
C:\>telnet 192.168.2.71
Connecting To 192.168.2.71...Could not open connection to the host, on port
23
Connect failed

Do you have telnet enabled in the host machine in the /etc/hosts.allow file
?
You need to add the telenet daemon like so
in.telnetd: <ip address or computer name > , 127.0.0.1
The ip address can be in the format of xxx.xxx.
After you edit the /etc/hosts.allow file , you will have to restart the
network for the changes to come into effect.
HTH
