While installing ReHat 3 Update 2 x86_64 (That'd be for the AMD
Opteron processor), the installation is freezing at different times
during the GUI installation. This freeze always occurs during the
first half of the installation, but not necessarily at the same module
installation. (For example, it may freeze during Perl installation
one time, and gnome another.)
We're installing this on a dual proc AMD Opteron system with 2GB of
RAM. We first ran memtest86, and there were no errors found in
memory. We then tried installing in text mode, which installed fine.
But we can't get it to install in GUI mode.
We think this is a hardware issue, but since we've successfully
installed in text mode, and we've also been able to install Windows
Server 2003 ES (32-bit), we're at a loss on what hardware issue this
could be.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Eric
