Core 2 - critical temperature

    I've been running Core 1 for months with no trouble at all.
    Then today I tried booting up with Core 2. It gets to /sbin/loader
    and bombs with something like "Critical temperature 77 C reached. Shutting
    down." It repeats this every few seconds and eventually fills the screen
    with garbage.

    I immediately rebooted and went into BIOS config where the CPU temperature
    showed a cool 46 degrees C.

    E-Machines W1500 with an AMD Athlon XP 1600+.
