fedora core 2 final gnome problem

When I try to run gnome-background-properties to change the gnome
background I the application crashes with the following warining
"The Application "gnome-background-properties" has quit unexpectedly.
You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix it. Or
you can restart the application right now.
"
Very non-descript. Has anyone seen this or know how to fix it?
