streaming audio/video

Folks,

Does anyone here have any experience/info on streaming live audio/video
using Linux?

My brother plays in a band and they'd like to broadcast it over the net?

I'm reading in to Real Producer and Helix at the moment but I don't know
if that will fit the bill.

All help, via the newsgroup (for all to learn) would be greatly appreciated,
