Info gathered from your 9/10/04 newsgroup posting;

Scenario:
=========
Trying to dual boot Windows XP Pro and Fedora Core 2 on a Dell Dimension
XPS Gen 2 PC with
- Intel motherboard, Pentium 4, 875 chip set, - two SATA drives, one
CD-ROM, one DVD drive, - Video card: ATI Radeon 9800 XT. - Monitor:
Samsung SyncMaster 193P LCD. - WinXP Pro came pre-installed on first SATA
drive.

Use the kernel that works for now, the non-smp kernel.

Turn off the kudzu service, as root from the console or xterm session type
something like; chkconfig --levels 345 kudzu off

For the MBR and video configuration issues visit http://www.fedorafaq.org/
and review the Problems and Their Solutions section, question #3 for the
video issues and question #10 for the MBR issue.

The default up2date server can be overloaded from time to time, choose one
and use one of the mirrors instead to get the updates (see the Fedora FAQ
link above, Getting and Installing Software section question # 5);
http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors.html

Update (up2date,yum and apt normally do not upgrade kernel updates by
default) and install both the smp and non-smp to the latest available
2.6.7 kernels from one of the many FC2 mirrors get;

kernel-smp-2.6.7-1.494.2.2.i686.rpm
kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2.i686.rpm

And install them (as root of course) from the console or xterm session by
typing something like; rpm -ivh kernel*.rpm

If you have a high speed Internet connection working with FC2 simply do
(as root) something like (downloads and installs at one time);

rpm -ivh
ftp://mirror.hiwaay.net/redhat/fedora/linux/core/updates/2/i386/kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2.i686.rpm

The above command is one long line (word wrapped) with a space after
'-ivh' and before 'ftp....'

Boot the system into runlevel 3 then copy /etc/X11/xorg.conf to something
like /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bad (to have/keep as a backup) then delete the
original xorg.conf file. When done use the system-config-display (as root)
to re-create the xorg.conf file after updating the xorg RPM's and
following the directions from the Fedora FAQ link (question #3) above.

Good Luck!!
