We are trying to set up fedora core 3 with a mirrored system disk to ensure
better availability. This is a standard white box with 2 identical 36gb IDE
drives (1 on each controller)
We proceeded to install and when camt the time to create partitions, we
created 4 raid partitions
/dev/hda1 32 Gb ext3
/dev/hda2 4 Gb swap
/dev/hdb1 32 Gb ext3
/dev/hdb2 4 gb swap
We then created 2 raid 1 volumes 1 for /, 1 for SWAP
The install then proceeded and completed. Upon rebooting the system we end
up with a GRUB prompt and a dead system
What's wrong ?
If we do the same install but without using raid, the system boots just
fine.
Where can we get a good explanation of RAID-1 install and management. It's
fine to have raid-1, but what happens when one of the drives fails ? It is
not hot pluggable, do we simply shut down the system properly when we can
allow downtime, replace the failed drive and reboot and the drive will
sync/reconstruct automatically ?
Thanks
