This may be mythology, but I have never gotten Gnome to work
satisfactorily, on four different distributions over the past two
years. I would recommend getting Fedora Core 3 and using the KDE desktop
> them, and in the /mnt directory there is only floppy and CD.
In FC3 the thumb drives and cdrom appear in /media unless you farkle
with the system
You are of course trying to do all this as su - root?
