Even some Fedora versions can have some problems with some SATA chipsets.
Does your BIOS allow you to switch the SATA drive into some sort of
PATA emulation mode, or legacy ATA? That's how I've installed on a
SATA chipset in the past (can't remember if it was FC2 or 3 on a new
Dell desktop). In my case, I switched to the emulation mode, installed
FC?, installed the latest updated kernel for the distro which did
support the sata chipset properly, and then switched the BIOS back.
Worked a treat. You might have to leave out the switch back, though,
and remain in PATA mode, with RH9.
