Another disadvantage: Someone else's DNS server may not allow you to
connect to it.

You need to test whether someone else's server helps you, but with most
Linuxes you don't have to use someone else's - you can use your own.
Install BIND (usually the "named" RPM).

I believe you can also use more than three DNS servers, if you configure
things by hand.
