Just installed FC3 from dvd.
Using the default options, it provides the Gnome desktop.
Fedora Core 2.6.9-1.667 Red Hat nash version 4.1.18
Am trying to get my modem working, on dialup.
After coming from KDE and Kppp, this Gnome arrangement seems a little under
documented. Even FC3 Help contains little info on setting up a dialup.
* Is the Internet Connection Wizard all that is necessary for this ?
[Found under Applications -> System Tools].
* What is "Route" for, inside the Internet Connection Wizard, with sections
such as Destination, Prefix (netmask), Gateway.
[Found by selecting a Device in ICW then Edit].
* In the Internet Connection Wizard, do I place my ISP's IP number in the
DNS section ? That's the multi-digit number in groups of 2 or 3 separated
by dots, which I have for my ISP.
* Is the Gconf editor any use for setting up dialup on my modem ?
[Found under System Tools -> Configuration Editor -> GConf Editor]
GConf Editor under System has; dns_sd, http-proxy, smb etc.
Will I need any of these set to get my dialup modem going ?
* I see no Modem Initialization String set in the Device Edit section of the
Internet Connection Wizard. This must surely need to be set to my modem
init string ?
Any comments, directions or references very much appreciated.
