samsung sd 612 won't read dvd's

    I just installed an old samsung dvd sd-612 somebody gave me. It reads
    cd's and vcd's ok but will not not read dvd's. The same thing happens
    under windows. I did some searching on the internet and it seems this
    model has had problems with dvd's before. has anybody been able to get
    one working?
