We have a tivoli script accessing a VMware ESX (Redhat 7.3) via "rsh"
    without loading the user profiles.

unfortunately the standard output is truncated to 80 characters if I
could change the environment variable at "boot time" to COLUMNS=300 it
should work, the thing is I can not use anything in the "profiles" or
    for a specific user

I tried adding it to the rc.sysinit but this didn't work, I am more or
less new to linux, thx for any hints

I am grateful for tips concerning how I could search for that myself
    too
