My Fedora Core 3 Linux is like this:
root (hd1,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.12-1.1372_FC3 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
initrd /initrd-2.6.12-1.1372_FC3.img
I'd expect yours to be somewhat similar. I've not got around to Fedora
Core 4 Linux, yet.

Normally in your /boot partition. Though it's possible, to have them in a
/boot sub-directory off of / (the root), I believe.
Boot off the rescue disc, mount all your partitions, and list their
contents.

I'd be surprised if you'd installed the system and not the kernel.
