Grub needs to be installed someplace (and probably is), and no it does
not need to be installed to the MBR. Since by reading your other
postings in this thread I see that you know how to boot into rescue
mode and use chroot, do so.
Follow the directions here to install and successfully boot Linux using
the Microsoft bootloader;

Starting at;
You may choose to let another boot loader handle the install, in which
case you will want to:
