Hullo out there....I just bought a laptop with Promise FastTrak SATA
controller ( PDC20378 )
Promise has made both binary drivers and sources available for Red Hat
9.0 . Following
instructions of the driver installation:
( i ) I copied drivers to a floppy
( ii ) With the floppy inserted into my laptop's USB FLOPPY DRIVE ,
and Red Hat Install CD 1, cold booted my laptop
( iii ) At the " boot: " prompt, typed linux expert
( iv ) On being asked for additional driver disk, chose floppy drive
Now the problem that arises is that since I've got a usb floppy drive,
the floppy is detected, not as /dev/fd0 but /dev/sda. Since after
provision of drivers, the internal sata hard drive is to be detectd as
/dev/sda, a conflict arises and the hard drive remains undetected
Now, having scoured through google groups, I know that the drivers can
be copied to the installation CD in such a manner that the drivers are
loaded from the CD itself...however, I'd like to request some clean
step-by-step instructions for doing that. If someone can please provide
me with these instrucions, I'd be very greatful.
If any additional information is required, I'd be only too glad to
furnish them
Thanking all in advance,
Yours sincerely,
Shubham Harnal
