Howdy, I had a linux box with a single CPU. I recently upgraded the machine, and I moved my HD over to a new motherboard that has 2 CPUs, and I've also upgraded to Fedora Core 4. When I look under KInfoCenter->Processor I see that only one CPU is listed. Is there a way to verify that I'm using both CPUs?
The first step is to download and install an smp kernel. The second step is to boot the system using the smp kernel.
That's what I was afraid of. Is there a Fedora Core 4 SMP repository, or should I get used to rebuilding the kernel myself.
Thanks,
# yum install kernel-smp
Presuming that you have the regular Fedora yum repos configured, which should be the case by default, the above is all you need to do to install a smp-kernel. Then re-boot with it.
Only under unusual circumstances should you ever need to build a kernel from scratch. I have been using RH since 8.0 and have never had to do it.
