    Here is what I found:

    http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-3-Manual/release-notes/ws-x86/

Systems based on the Intel I865/I875 chipsets and utilizing these chipsets'
ICH5 Serial ATA (SATA) functionality should configure the BIOS settings for
their SATA devices to "enhanced" or "native" mode. "Legacy" or "combined"
mode SATA is supported, but discouraged.
NOTE: Not all BIOS implementations offer the ability to change these
    settings.

I'm using the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard and I found the settings and
    made a change.
    The HD was detected! Weeeppppppeeeeeee.

In the BIOS it appears under:

MAIN -> IDE Configuration -> OnBoard IDE Operate Mode ->

    Here you have 2 choices:

    Enhanced Mode
    Compatible Mode

I selected Enhanced Mode and that enables more sub-menu items:

Enhanced Mode Support On (P-ATA+S-ATA) - I chose this one as I have a
regular CD-ROM (the P-ATA) and the Serial ATA (the S-ATA).
    That didn't work. - boot-time freeze.

Enhanced Mode Support On (S-ATA) - I chose this one figuring maybe I need to
have define just the serial portion.
That didn't work. -RH9 installation complained that no hard drives were
    found.

Enhanced Mode Support On (P-ATA) - I chose this one figuring maybe I don't
need to configure the Serial and I'll get lucky.
    That didn't work. - boot-time freeze.

So,.. Enhanced Mode is NOT THE WAY TO GO!

OK.. changed the choice to Compatible Mode and enabled and displayed
    different sub-menu items:

    IDE Port Settings (Primary P-ATA+S-ATA)
                               (Secondary P-ATA+S-ATA)
                               (P-ATA Ports Only)

    By means of elimination:
I selected P-ATA Ports Only (I'm almost certain this is not the one to be
selected, but I wanted to be certain about this).
That didn't work. -RH9 installation complained that no hard drives were
    found.

Now we are finally at the last two options, it's either the primary or the
    secondary.

I selected Secondary P-ATA+S-ATA (again... trying to eliminate the Secondary
so I'll be forced to used the Primary).
    That didn't work. - boot-time freeze - didn't even boot from the CD-ROM.

I'm left with one last option:

Well.. here is an interesting situation... now I switched the BIOS to the
    Primary P-ATA+S-ATA.

BUT,.. the last change that I made has an interesting lasting effect on the
    BIOS.
I had to change the Primary.. and then reboot again. Why?

Because the BIOS,.. when it was in the Secondary mode... disabled detection
for the CD-ROM. It didn't even show as the
IDE device in the BIOS auto-detect.
So to bring the CD-ROM back.. I changed to Primary..saved... Rebooted,...
went back to the BIOS and verified that
the Primary is selected. The CD-ROM was "magically" returned back and showed
    on auto-detect.

AHH... but something is wrong.. it is not pulling from the CD-ROM!.. well..
since the CD-ROM was detected and "Added"
only on the last action.. it is no longer the first Boot device. So change
    it! (another boot).

Now.... here goes... and hopefully the Primary will finally work!

MY G&D!!!!! I now have a detectable Serial ATA Hard drive!
RH9 has finally booted up correctly and Anaconda kicked in...
