1) CNRL + ALT + F1 (F1..F6) should let you login to console in text mode.
ALT + F7 returns to graphical mode.
Alternatively:
Boot with CD #1 and give boot option
boot: linux rescue
2) The config file for XFree86 is /etc/X11/XF86Config
# kate /etc/X11/XF86Config
3) You can try to config X with
# redhat-config-xfree86
For other commands:
# redhat-[TAB] [TAB]
// os moma
