I am attempting to use RedHat 9.0 on a machine that has two CPUs, and 6
SCSI disks attached to an Adaptec 2940U2W controller, and am running into
a bit of trouble: The AIC7XXX driver used during installation can
communicate with the disks just fine, but when I try to boot to the newly
installed system, I get nothing but errors, of this type:
scsi host 0 abort (pid 33) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
scsi host 0 abort (pid 34) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
scsi host 0 abort (pid 35) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
(scsi:0:0:0:0) Device reset, Message buffer in use
Again, I can boot to the installation disk in resuce mode, and *that*
AIC7XXX driver will install, probe the devices, and find the disks just
fine with no errors or delays, it's only the kernel that it *installed*
that has the problems. What differences are there between the two
kernels?
(FWIW, I booted to the installation medium in rescue mode, chroot'ed to
/mnt/sysimage, and made a new initrd that uses AIC7xxx_old, but that
driver also fails.)
