Hello
I used the up2date facility to automatially update the kernel of our
RedHat AS 2.1 Server. Everything seemed to work perfectly, new entries
appeared in the /boot/grub/grub.conf file, new initrd and vmlinux
files were there where expected. "Old" version is 2.4.9.e30smp, new is
38.smp. When booting though, I get following messages, after which the
machine has to be powercycled:
Red Hat nash version 3.2.6.2 starting
Loading scsi_mod module
SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
Loading sd-mod module
Loading megaraid module
megaraid: v1.18 (Release Date: Wed Dec 4 11:33:88 EST 2002)
megaraid: no BIOS enabled.
/lib/megaraid.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
ERROR: /bin/insmod existed abnormally!
Loading jbd module
Journaled Block Device driver loaded
Loading ext3 module
Mounting /proc filesystem
Creating root device
Mounting root filesystem
mount: error 19 mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 248k freed
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
I changed the default kernel to the old one for the time being.
I got the advise from RedHat to rebuild the RAM disk image file, what
I did but did not help either:
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.9-e.38smp.img 2.4.9-e.38smp
Perhaps anyone came accross a similar problem and can help a bit.
Thanks
