You need setup and force the speed in the network card and bub/switch to 100
full duplex, see doc of network card and put the command in
/etc/modules.conf and speak to network administrator to force speed in the
port of the switch to 100 full duplex.
Autonegotiation not work fine in some switchs/drivers linux distro
If you can´t or dont know how to force speeds in your hub/switch, try to
force in modules.conf 100 half duplex

For a Intel pro100 the line to modify in /etc/modules.conf is these:

options eepro100 options="0x30"

0x30 is 100 full duplex
