If you play with partition, get a newdisk, ghost a disk,t you will get
that problem soon or later.

The best thing you can do it to "be master in GRUB" (10 hours on a
saturday is enough). Grub is great and very easy to use, you can
always boot to grub-prompt with a floppy and then rebuild the boot
sector or test your root partition from the prompt.

Read carefully the paper from http:\\tng.private.dk\how_grub.htm

nb: very important that you set your root partition correctly, e.g.
root (hd1,0) , if your linux root ( / ) resides on disk 2 partition 1.
