Is this a BIOS message or does it come from Linux after lilo menu ?

You may want to try booting of the CD and pick
rescue mode at the boot prompt. Your original
root fs **MAY ** appear under /mnt or /sysmount .
I forgot exactly .
Pull the drive and insert it into another system
of a similar type and see if you can harvest data
off of it. Your have to run fsck and mount it as
a secondary disk.
