Thanks Steve for your help. I put in the exact initiation string I used in
W2000 (where this modem works perfectly) and have the same problem. This
modem is a best data external serial modem. I bought this modem because
external serial modems are supposed to be bulletproof on linux. Linux
didn't recognize it when I installed it (through Gnomes network tool). Is
that unusual?
