New Audigy Card

I just upgraded my REALLY old sound card to a SoundBlaster Audigy MP3. I
checked Red Hat's compatibility list and I thought it would work with Red
Hat 9. However, it doesn't. I've been doing some searching but I cannot
figure out how to get it going. Everything says I need to turn sound on and
recompile my kernel. I cannot find where to do this and Red Hat "does not
support re-compiling a kernel". Can someone please give or point me towards
some very simple instructions. I am still a huge Linux novice. Also,
everything says the kernel should be in /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-20.x and I do
not see it there.
